Hi, need help in updating my HA core from version 2023.11.2 to 2025.12.
It’s been some time since my RPi based HA was updated last time. These days when I got to it there was batch of updates pending, i managed to update OS and add-ons, but core update keep failing.
When requesting the core update it shows status “installing” for some time and then nothing happens.
Tried updating with and without back up, same result.
I assume i would need to update the core manually through the RPi SD cart, but not sure I remember how to do that.
Please advise how can I update the HA core, thank you in advance.
I would think that you would be better off doing a backup of your current HA, export it, re-install with the latest version and then restore the backup there.
Not sure if backup/restore functionality was so streamlined back in 2023.
You may find a few other issues as well with outdated compression algorithms may affect your ability to decompress the latest packages, and may have to do your updates in progressive stages rather than one big update.
Keep us posted on progress.
I suggest get a good working backup. pull the SD card, install HA on a new SD card, and restore your backup.
If you are running 32 bit in the old instance, you still may see issues with Apps and integrations .
There are also dozens of deprecations and hundreds of syntax changes in the last 2 years that will mess with automations and scripts..
Aren't you glad you saved all that work and skipped the updates? Seriously If you don't want to update every month, at least update every 3 or 4 months and save a lot of terror...
Thanks everyone for your support, update process is running. Looking forward to spend several days digging codes getting my home assistant back and running.
As for the skipping updates - that was not really my choice
, the world is very unstable now and not all in our control.
