Couldn't be more confused about how to **USE** Grafana with InfluxDB

So I have followed the tutorials, watched the live streams, installed both Grafana and InfluxDB add-ons in Hassio, and I’m still completely stumped about how to actually get at the data I want to see.

For instance, how would I query the data to show me the number of times a motion sensor tripped in the past 24 hours?

I’ve tried MySQL and InfluxDB, both of which connect and seem to collect data, but the Grafana interface couldn’t be more confusing.

Does anyone have a few simple examples from personal experience that they can help me model so I can figure out how to instruct this thing to do anything of value? Thanks!

I’d use the carpet plot plug-in for the movement sensors. Like the hourly cpu stats below:

I’ll have a go at setting up a movement sensor tomorrow and share the dashboard settings. I was putting it off in the hopes that the developer will list this plugin on the Grafana site (the only way to install plugins with the ha addon):
