CPU Usage Keeps Increasing After Recent 2025.12 Updates

Hey Everyone,

Ever since I updated Home Assistant starting Dec 24, I’ve seen increased CPU usage with no other new addons or configuration changes. Both the 2025.12.4 and 2025.12.5 updates incrementally increased CPU usage. This graph shows the increase:

The normal flat 3% CPU usage can be seen on the left bit of the graph. The 100% processor use spikes are HA updates being installed with the >80% processor spikes as ESPHome updates.

Could it be ESPHome also making things worse since Release 2025.12.3 and 2025.12.2 were also installed around then?

The only reason I noticed (and also the most annoying part) is that the mini PC cooling fan will spike on loud full blast for 2 seconds every few minutes and then stop.

Has anyone else experienced this? How can I determine the cause of the extra CPU load?

Install the glances addon, open it, press z and c and see what actually uses the CPU.

Ahh, very helpful!!

It looks like VS Code is chewing up the CPU.

Shutting that off fixed the issue.

Any idea why VS Code would freak out like that?
