Got an email from my ISP this morn that we’ve used 75% of our 1.2TB monthly allocation, and we’re only on the 7th! My Ubiquity Unifi Gateway Pro showed 848GB of SSH in the past week, attributed to Home Assistant (SSH). I’ve barely been in town the past week. Luckily going unlimited data was not pricey, but obviously need to figure this out.
I shut down my HA server for a bit. After starting HA to get the logs, I see in my gateway it appears to be using about 187 MB/minute. Yikes!. Just updated OS & core to 2022.4.0 and seems to be doing the same.
Any help would be appreciated. I do have a bandwidth card, but haven’t changed anything on it.
They typical culprit when posts like these come up is speedtest or other bandwidth type components.
If you have a fast connection and frequently assess your bandwith, it can use up a ton of data.
The other is camera feeds. If you have cameras connected to HA that work through the cloud, all of that camera data is coming from the cloud down to HA.
I disabled my speedtest integration. Still downloading 135+ MB/min.
Though I have surveillance in some sub-pages of Lovelace, they should not be visible anywhere. But I deleted everything in the cameras.yaml and restarted. Same thing.
Not sure where to look in the logs because it’s huge. Not to mention, I’ve made no changes to HA in a couple of weeks.
EDIT: Though my crazy 7-day usage is accurate, I was wrong in my reporting on the current usage. I was looking at packets, not MBs. I reset my gateway stats, and over the past few minutes HA has only used 247 KB. I’ll reinstate my cameras, then my speedtest and see what happens.
