Credential Error Adding Second TAPO P210M

I’m trying to add two TAPO (TP-Link) P210M smart outlets using the TP-Link Smart Home integration. Both devices have been added to the TAPO app and are working there. I was able to add the first outlet to Home Assistant with no issues. But when I tried to add the second outlet I get this error:

Unable to authenticate: Device response did not match our challenge on ip 10.1.3.101, check that your e-mail and password (both case-sensitive) are correct.

I’m about as sure as I can be that the username and password are correct (they’re coming out my saved passwords).

I found this post Unable to add second Tapo plug to Tapo Smart home which linked to another post Is the TP-Link Smart Home integration really Local Polling and Platimium? which suggested enabling (or possibly enabling, disabling, and then reenabling) Third-Party Compatibility in the TAPO app. A comment on the post suggested that perhaps the phrase “device response did not match our challenge” meant that the issue wasn’t the credentials that I entered, but something happening between the device and HA. No solution that I see there…

Any suggestions (other than leaving some scathing reviews & returning the devices)?

Try changing your password, i believe that tplink doesnt accept & in your password.

Also try to toggle third party compatibility off and on

I’m not sure about the password. It’s the same one that I’m using on the P210M that HA likes (and the same password that was used to set them up in the Tapo app).

Third-party compatibility is on, and I’ve tried turning it off, and back on again, and tried that several times.

I’ve also removed the device in the Tapo app, performed a factory reset, and the added it again in the Tapo app.

Does anybody have multiple P210Ms working with HA?
