Custom artificial sensor to keep track of salt usage

I need to keep track how much salt I used. I add the salt periodically, each 2-3 weeks in 20kg batches (sometimes they are smaller, depending on the bag I bought). I need to track it. I need a sensor (or something similar) which will accept something like number+date, so that I can add 20 kg today, 20kg next week and so on. It would be perfect if I was able to enter also past data (I know when I added salt last year). It should be something I can then draw chart - for example showing the total salt consumed.

I don’t think there is anything like this in HA.
I would set it up in Google sheets and add past data.
Then I would set up an input number to add new data to the sheet.
But that leaves it outside of HA.

The closest you can get to achieve what you want is to use weighing scale which weighs the bags/batches and has the ability to report this to HA.
I have seen a project with sensors to track the weight but cannot remember exactly what it was + apparently those sensors seemed to drift off.

If you can achieve that, it will not be that hard to store the date from the weighing.

Another option ?might? be to scan the bags/boxes/… and use OCR for recognition and distinguish the batches like that.

You could also use a HA calendar in which you enter the data manually and create an automation that informs you after x days and y amount of salt is used.

Other then that, I don’t see how you can turn that info into something smart.

Wow. 20kg of salt a week. Your blood pressure must be through the roof.

Haha :-). It is for the water softener. And I add 20kg each 2-3 weeks maybe a bit more for 5 person family

It is not a problem for me to enter manually the amount. Think about it like for example water consumption or gas consumption. It can be always increasing sensor. If I am able to just record current and future consumption it would be good.
