[Custom Card] EnerLens – energy flow card that breaks down what your house is using

Hi all,

I’d like to share EnerLens Card, an energy flow card I’ve been building for my own PV setup and have now polished enough to publish.

enerlens-demo-en-dark

It draws the familiar cross of solar, grid, house and battery with moving dots — and then answers the question the usual cross leaves open: what is the house figure actually made of?

What it does differently

  • Consumer breakdown instead of extra nodes. If you measure individual devices (a heat pump, a Shelly plug, …), add their entities. A list beside the house node and a ring around it show how the house consumption splits up; a remainder row holds everything not measured individually.
  • The list sorts itself and glides. Rows reorder by power on a fixed beat and slide into place, and the ring segments travel with them. A filter button shows every consumer on demand — handy for tapping the history of a device that just went quiet.
  • Moving averages. Live values jump by kilowatts within seconds. One tap switches to a 2 or 15 minute moving average (both configurable) to calm the picture down — clicking any node still opens the normal history dialog.
  • Grid outage display. If your inverter reports grid status, the card shows a red banner and a crossed-out grid node instead of a misleading “0 W”.
  • Narrow columns. On a phone or in a narrow column the list moves below the cross.

Practical bits

  • Full GUI editor — no YAML needed. Signed sensors, inverted sensors, separate import/export entities, or one quantity derived from the others are all choices in the form.
  • Same sign convention as Home Assistant and power-flow-card-plus, so existing sensors usually work as they are. There’s a short migration section in the README.
  • Defaults to the energy dashboard colours; every colour can be changed with a built-in colour picker, including var(--…) theme values.
  • English and German, following your HA profile language. Adding a language is just a JSON file.
  • Light and dark, follows the theme or can be forced per card.

Install

Via HACS → ⋮ → Custom repositories, add https://github.com/wawersich/enerlens-card as type Dashboard, then search for EnerLens.
(Inclusion in the default HACS list is pending.)

Minimal config:

type: custom:enerlens-card
entities:
  solar: sensor.pv_power
  grid: sensor.grid_power
  house: sensor.house_power

Feedback, ideas and bug reports are very welcome — here or as a GitHub issue. I’m especially curious how it copes with inverter setups I don’t have myself.

Update – v0.8.0: EV / wallbox support :automobile:

A consumer can now carry a state of charge — a car at its wallbox, a portable power station, …

IMG_4705

  • Add charge: with the SoC sensor to a consumer. A thin ring around the row’s icon shows the charge level.
  • While nothing is charging, the row shows the charge instead of 0 W.
  • show: plugged keeps the car in the list while it is plugged in — even when it is full and drawing nothing. “Plugged” can be an on/off sensor or a wallbox status sensor.
  • A car asleep (sensor unavailable) shows its last known charge in grey instead of disappearing.
  • In the editor every consumer now unfolds in place, and the new State of charge section offers the states of your wallbox sensor to pick from.

Also since the first post (v0.7.0): ring.animation lets you choose how the ring follows a reordered list — overtake (default), fade or jump — and there are two more flow designs, Proton and Neutrino.
