[Custom Integration] Good Days (ימים טובים): Shabbat, Jewish holidays, Hebrew-date family dates and Shabbat timers

Hi all,

Good Days is a HACS custom integration for Jewish households. It shows what’s coming at a glance: the next Shabbat and holidays, candle lighting and havdalah, family dates by the Hebrew calendar, and it runs your Shabbat timers.

What’s in it:

  • Holidays calendar: Shabbat and Yom Tov as timed events (candle lighting to havdalah), all other holidays, special Shabbatot (Shekalim, Zachor, Parah, HaChodesh, HaGadol, Shuva…), Rosh Chodesh, Israel or diaspora.
  • Haftarah for every Shabbat, Ashkenazi or Sephardi / Edot HaMizrach, checked against Hebcal for every Shabbat 2024 to 2040.
  • Family dates by Hebrew date: birthdays, yahrzeits and anniversaries that repeat by the Hebrew calendar (Adar and 30th-day rules), with reminders a day ahead and phone notification buttons.
  • Shabbat timers: hot plate, urn, water heater, lights, AC… switched on and off relative to candle lighting / havdalah, with profiles, skip next Shabbat and a preview.
  • Lovelace card: next Shabbat with times and haftarah, upcoming holidays and family dates, merged with your other calendars, Shabbat-conflict warnings.
  • Sensors (next Shabbat, next candle lighting, next holiday), a calendar subscription link (ICS), Assist (“מה יש השבוע?”), a blueprint for lights before candle lighting.
  • Hebrew and English, right to left. Works offline (no external API).

Install (HACS custom repository while it waits for the default list): HACS → ⋮ → Custom repositories → GitHub - bareli/good_days: Home Assistant integration + Lovelace card: upcoming Shabbat, Jewish holidays and family events with countdowns, Hebrew/English · GitHub, type Integration → Download → restart → Settings → Devices & services → Add integration → Good Days.

Feedback and issues welcome. שבת שלום!

v0.11.0: fast times and the Omer

Good Days v0.11.0 is out (update in HACS). What’s new:

Fast times

  • Minor fasts (Tzom Gedaliah, Asara B’Tevet, Ta’anit Esther, 17 Tammuz) now run from dawn to nightfall. Tisha B’Av runs from sunset the evening before to havdalah; when it’s postponed to Sunday, it starts after havdalah.
  • New options: when minor fasts begin (dawn at 16.1°, or 72 / 90 minutes before sunrise) and when they end (nightfall for fasts at 6.45°, or your havdalah time). Start times match Hebcal to the minute.
  • New entities: sensor.good_days_next_fast, binary_sensor.good_days_fasting (on during Yom Kippur too).
  • The card counts a fast in progress down to its end (“ends in 1:12”).

Shabbat timers on fast days

  • “Applies to” now includes Fast days. On a fast day, “candle lighting” means when the fast begins and “havdalah” when it ends.
  • New preset Breaking the fast: urn / kettle on 30 minutes before the fast ends, off an hour after.

Omer

  • sensor.good_days_omer: today’s count (1-49), moving on at nightfall, with the counting sentence in Hebrew or English. The card shows it during the Omer.
  • Optional nightly Omer reminder (off by default) with a “Counted” button. On Shabbat and Yom Tov nights it’s sent an hour before candle lighting; on the night after, it waits until after havdalah.

Assist

  • “What’s the Omer count?” / “כמה בעומר היום?”
  • “When does the fast end?” / “מתי נגמר הצום?”

Copy the new sentences from docs/assist to use these.

Heads-up: fasts on the holidays calendar (and in the calendar link) are now timed events, not all-day. If you have an automation that relied on them being all-day, check it.
