thank you for the report. Fixed in the last release!
Hi @iluebbe — thanks a lot for the great integration! Over the years I’ve built quite a few input_datetime helpers and automations for maintenance, so this is already replacing a lot of custom YAML for me. I especially like that it automatically discovered my batteries and the maintenance items for my Dreame vacuum.
A few questions/feature requests after trying it:
-
Warning days = 0
I can’t seem to set the warning period to 0. For some tasks I don’t want anydue_soonperiod — I only want them to become due on the actual date. Would allowing0warning days make sense? -
Printer ink
My printer has three colours below 5%, but Maintenance Supporter only shows a generic “Replace Ink or Toner” task. Is it possible to expose the individual cartridge/colour (e.g. Black, Cyan, Magenta), assuming the printer integration provides that information? -
Dreame consumables
Maintenance Supporter correctly discovers the Dreame maintenance items. When I mark one as complete, does it automatically re-baseline the underlying sensor/counter, or is an on-complete action required for that? I saw the completion-action functionality, but I’m not sure how the Dreame integration is handled specifically. -
Battery Fleet / individual batteries
Battery Fleet is great for aggregating batteries, but I don’t see the individual batteries that need replacing in the summary/dashboard. Is the individual battery/device information available through the fleet data/API? I’d like to build my own notification such as:• Kitchen Motion Sensor — CR2450
• Hallway Door Sensor — CR2032
• Bedroom Sensor — AAA -
Custom notifications / detailed task data
My preference is to use Maintenance Supporter purely as the source of maintenance state, while handling notifications myself. Is there a recommended way to retrieve the detailed information for all tasks needing attention (including object/device, task, status and due information) so I can build my own grouped daily notification?
For example, I may only want to report aquarium maintenance when the aquarium pump is off (using TTS), and then send one combined notification for all maintenance items at a specific time each day (using push).
Thanks again — this is already a huge improvement over the custom system I had before!
Been finding this custom integration amazing for our families’ planning, not just for the house maintenance, for which it is great, but also for the garden, the vineyard, the kid, the irrigation, the prescriptions, the whole nine yards.
I am right now however, trying to add an object with installation date of 1978—quite tedious at the moment though as I’m finding no way of quickly going back to 1978 without clicking through all months manually.
Another issue I’ve had a lot is that I’m creating lots of objects, then creating tasks for them—but accidentally putting the new tasks on another object—leading to me going back to need to change object, however, finding no way to actually change the object of a task without going back to create a new task and removing the previous task.
I FRIGGIN LOVE THIS INTEGRATION!!!
Three questions:
1.) Can I rename the Sidebar because it conflicts with the default maintenance dashboard that came out.
2.) I like the automated “Replace low batteries” task but all my batteries are in just the one area. Is there a way to change the location of the batteries picked up for that?
3.) I have the same UPSes all throughout my house and they use the same replacement battery and I can see others that have robot vacuums using the same parts between the multiple ones they have and so on. It does not make sense to have a set of replacement parts for each device when the consumables can be stored and used as needed. For instance, I could buy two batteries for my UPSes and keep them and if I need to replace, I just deduct it from my inventory but all four UPSes point to that same inventory for their replacement parts.
4.) Along those lines, having a shortcut to “same device make and model as” to just create a pointer for make, model, consumable inventory and manual locations across them all. But, I will give you high props for deduping the manual storage. Basically, having that for other fields on the various device types would be great and save a few bits.
I am looking very forward to future releases and future things that get added to my “to-do” list. This is great!
Great to hear, thank you!
- Renaming the sidebar entry: in the panel, Settings → General → Sidebar panel title (the integration’s Configure → General settings has it too), so it no longer clashes with Home Assistant’s own Maintenance dashboard. Leave it empty to get “Maintenance” back.
- Where the batteries are: the battery fleet is deliberately one object with one task, so 40 batteries don’t turn into 40 tasks. Everything battery-related sits wherever that object sits: Edit object → Area (optional) moves it, or leave it empty. Each battery’s real location is its device’s area in Home Assistant, and the roster doesn’t show that yet (it sorts by urgency or name). Would it help to see, or sort by, where each battery is?
- One spare for all four UPSes: that works already. Put the spare battery on an object of its own (say “UPS spares”) with tracked stock, and link it in each UPS’s replacement task under Parts from other objects. Every replacement then draws on the same stock, with one reorder threshold, one low badge and one Buy… reminder for all four. All parts lists every part with the tasks that use it. Robot vacuums sharing filters or dust bags work the same way.
- “Same make and model as”: the closest is Duplicate in an object’s ⋮ menu. It copies make, model and the other details plus every task (not the serial number or the history), and links into another object’s parts stay links. So set up one UPS linked to the spares from point 3, duplicate it three times, and all four draw on the same shelf. (A part the UPS owns itself would be copied as a new, empty shelf instead.) Manuals: uploading the same PDF to several objects stores it once, as you noticed. What doesn’t exist is a live link: a duplicate is a one-time copy, so changing one later doesn’t change the others.
Another question. Can I create my own “device” for like general “Office” tasks and move tasks to it? For example, dusting, inside windows, however, there are tasks that all get groups together under one like:
Office East Window Sensor Tamper
Office Sensor Tampering, product cover removed
Office North Window Sensor Tamper
Zigbee2MQTT Bridge Restart Required
They do not really fit under my:
Cat Litter Box (Office) (I have two…well, not me, the cats)
Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) KAH-UPS05
Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) KAH-UPS06
There really just needs to be a general room “device”, at least how I interpret it be set up, or maybe I am breaking the original intent.
The devices that live in that room are fine. These are just to pick and choose things that do not live in the same room and add my own.
Thank you for all your work on this. Really enjoying it…as much as you can when being told to do chores.
AH! NM, “create new object”.
@schar Sorry for the late answer here, both of your points are in since 2.82:
- Typing a date: every date field has a keyboard button next to the picker. Type
1978,03/1978,1978-03-15or the date in your profile’s format and press Enter. - Task on the wrong object: open the task, then ⋮ → Move to another object…. History, readings and trigger state move with it. For several tasks at once: Select in the task list, tick them, then ⋯ → Move to another object….
Thanks for the kind words. A vineyard and prescriptions in the same tool is a nice mix!
