[Custom Integration] Marstek Venus Energy Manager

I have a question about an EV charging mode.

I am using the omnibattery and it works quite well! Thank you!

I have setup HA monitoring my solarpanels and my 2 marstek batteries and buidling to add my heatpump and smart living stuff. My next step is to see if I can control the batteries without too much hassle.

So I imagine when EV charging is detected (or an external Home Assistant binary_sensor is ON), would it be possible to temporarily disable battery discharge using the existing per-battery discharge toggles? Re-enable discharge automatically when charging ends. i was thinking of when the power is >7-8kW should be enough to detect it…

I would like to see of I can prevent the home batteries from discharging into the EV while keeping the rest of the energy management active.

I’ve been running my 3 Venus E 3.0 units for a week now. My résumé after a week: I have never in my life seen software as bad as the Marstek firmware, and I’ve been working professionally and privately with software for more than 30 years. Doesn’t matter if it’s the app, the CT002, or the Venus itself. Nothing but problems, bugs, necessary reboots, and so on. While searching for a solution, I stumbled upon your integration, since I wasn’t even aware that the Venus supports Modbus TCP as well (I thought it is only Modbus RTU possible, and the EW11 units are currently on their way to me from China).

What you’ve cooked up here is truly brilliant and is saving me. I set my old industrial grid sensor as source, connected all 3 storage units, and everything runs like clockwork. Thank you so much for this implementation! :+1:

First of all I would like to join all the people that complimented you on this great extension for Home Assistant. I works well and looks beautifully. Great job! My question is about the charging optimization algorithm. I am in the Netherlands and until Jan 27 I get the same price for solar energy supplied to the grid as the price for energie taken from the grid. Therefore the optimal strategy for my Marstek Venus E V3 is load at the two cheapest hours with 2500 W and discharge at 1500-2500 W at the 2-3 most expensive hours (regardless of solar energy produced). I use predictive charging that allows for setting charge and discharge price thresholds. The discharge works perfectly only above the threshold. The charge however does not obey the threshold probably because of the underlying charge optimization algorithm. As the software does not ask for prices of solar energy returned to the grid it cannot make the optimum decision in my opinion. After Jan 27 I will start using the PD controller, but the same argument applies: when feeding back energy to the grid I get a certain price (much lower than currently), but not zero. Does the algorithm assume solar energy is free or are there other considerations/optimizations. Curious to learn the depth of the application from you. By the way: I have just bought two more Venus E V3 batteries such that each phase of my three phase home net has one battery connected. I am happy to test any specifics you have for this type of configuration. Rgds, Paul
