Custom-sidebar: personalise Home Assistant's sidebar per user or device basis

I really like the look you have going on here. Would you mind sharing your yaml?

Initially I had trouble getting the basics to work despite following the video tutorials that were provided but I got them working once I simplified my configuration yaml file by getting rid of previous code that weren’t essential.

My goal was to change the Home Assistant title which I was successful at but now I am researching to see if I can add an image or icon to replace the Home Assistant title.

Is that possible?

Really weird that this security feature is not implemented yet! Unable to hide dashboards like “activity” from non-admin-users effectivly gives them controll and insight to the whole HA setup!

I’ve tried the kiosk-mode workaround too, but that didn’t work well either.

Video-tutorials get outdated easily and many things have changed in custom-sidebar since it was created. It is always advisable to follow the documentation which is always up-to-date with the latest status of the plugin.

You can set the title to an empty string and set the menu background with an image that you can design. An example:

title: ' '
menu_background: |
  50px center / 200px auto no-repeat url('https://www.home-assistant.io/images/blog/2023-09-ha10/home-assistant-logo-new.png') #f2f4f9

Yes, it has been in that way since the beginning. There are many feature requests regarding that.

With “either” do you mean that custom-sidebar is not working for you? If it is not working just post what is not working and we can help you but without saying it it will be hard to do so.

For kiosk-mode you can ask for help here to avoid mixing topics.

I’m someone that find video tutorials helpful as a visual aid to replicating some of the basic customisations that are possible.

Thanks for the example. I was able to tinker with it and use the icon to look like it was replacing the side bar button after turning the side bar button’s colors transparent.
