Instead of a tablet I what thinking of spinning up a vm (proxmox), installing a browser, and using a 18" touch screen monitor. Will this work??

Welcome to the forums!

Maybe. Depends if your choice of OS, browser & touch screen have compatible drivers. Might be a better idea to search the Proxmox forums for combinations of the above which are known to work well together.
Won't work. See comments below.

Hi, welcome to the forum!

Would you connect that touch screen with your Proxmox and you want to install a desktop system in that VM; is that the idea?

yes that is the idea.. Trying to use a larger screen than android has, around 18 to 21 inches

You will get the Proxmox console by connecting a screen to it, not the output from any of the virtual machines and AFAIK this cannot be changed.

@Nick4 is right. Missed that part when I replied to you earlier.

The actual hardware running Proxmox will only output a console screen. If you want to use a touch monitor you'll need another computer to connect to the vm via a browser, making the task of installing an OS with browser on Proxmox itself redundant.

Basically, you're gonna need 2 devices:

  • Computer with no screen as the Proxmox host (server) running HA & whatever else you want.
  • Computer with touch screen & browser as a client to connect to Proxmox.

thanks will see what Proxmox says.
