Here’s something I made in AI that immediately is prettier and good enough to go on my wall iPads but I don’t know how to get it close to something like that, I mean, I can’t even get the designs to fill all the width/white space.
How do I get to something this pretty? Get a designer? Design using what? Is there a HACS thing I haven’t heard about? Should I be heading off to Lovable.ai?
Personally I’m sick and tired of maintaining my very customised dashboards what with the frontend devs constantly breaking it and now card mod making mental changes as well.
I’m getting real close to saying stuff it and going back to just core cards and themes. Yes it would look terrible compared to what I have now but it would be one less thing to maintain.
I’ve never understood the obsession over “pretty” dashboards.
Dashboards should be minimalist and functional. If you spend too much time interacting constantly with a dashboard that you notice it “looks amateur” then you aren’t doing home automation right.
the home should generally do things without you needing to open up a phone or computer screen to do things and if you do need to it should be a fairly rare necessity.
I think a lot of the usefulness of dashboards gets lost by trying to make them all flashy and the desired information gets swamped by the design. And all of the whitespace inherent in the “mushroom” design is just a big waste of space.
There are many reasons why a dashboard is useful. e.g. I have a dashboard I use for control in my Cinema. Most things are automatic (lights, heating, etc…) but selecting media and play/pause still requires human input.
Well there’s the massive amount of wasted whitespace, cartoonish heading font, lack of definition of the navigation keys, borders around everything (including sub-card elements) and more.
