Dashboard for app in the new version?

My wife is going crazy, and I’m not that happy either.
I’ve made a simple dashboard for use on a mobile phone, it’s a very clean app interface, where a lot of the possibilities are removed from the full interface we use on the computer…
This has helped my wife use home assistant so definetely improved WAF.

Now it goes to the default page of HA, and she is quite unhappy, even though the interface works, as I’ve moved the elements to sections etc.

Previously I could set a default page for the companion app, that function seems to be removed, so what do I do now?

It seems to put aside people that really want two different interfaces.
Secondly the original setup was still silly, as the specially designed page couldn’t be forced for a specific users device, even though the device is known in HA.

you need to create a user specifically for the mobile device. then in the settings for that user select the dashboard to be used for that new user.

Eh? I don’t get it? How does that work with person-tracking?
As far as I can see, I can only have one user pr. person?

So we’ve gone from having a user and a person connected, to now having 2 users and one person, not connected?
This simply doesn’t make sense, somebody needs to think further on this.
I don’t see any benefit from this, I can’t even set some default page for that user from the HA.

I just deleted my rant above, as I know the developers dig in when you critisize their decisisions.
So let me write this in a more constructive way.
I have several different panels for different users.

  1. Adding an extra user for each person that has a special interface is a work-around, not a solution.
  2. First rule of security, one identity for each user. Eases tracking and makes it audible and finding “problems”
  3. It must be a priority making it easier to get on board for a new person, and getting that for the new user isn’t done this way.
  4. Maintenance is now doubling exponentially for each user you have.
  5. This is the sort of solution I would expect from Open home foundation back when the project was started, we should be getting to a more mature platform.
  6. Sacrificing usability for a puristic approach to this makes it less usable, ie. “only design one interace”, as each cellphone has different designs.

They dig in either way whether you criticize or not. And whether the criticism is constructive or backed by logical reasoning is irrelevant. They just use any criticism as a way to justify digging in as they were already going to do in the first place.

If you think I’m wrong then how many decisions in the history of HA have ever been reversed? Very few. And those were only after such a ridiculously huge amount of backlash that it couldn’t be ignored.

While I applaud the effort to clarify your logic I think it’s wasted effort. The decision has been made and nothing you say will change it. But we still gotta try sometimes.

Yes, sadly I agree
