Delete files in use from a stopped HA instance on HA OS - how to

How do I delete files that are in use? I can’t use any add-on’s in the HA since this must be stopped “core stop” to unlock the offending files.

However, at that point I am in “ha >” and this does not allow direct file access. I am a windows guy and my instance is a Hyper-v instance, so the file system isn’t recognisable if I mount the virtual disk in Windows Disk manger.

The core driver is that I have a custom integration “service” in HACS which I no longer want to use. But while the integration can be deleted from the integrations page and HACS itself can be removed [which I do not want to do], there is no mechanism for deleting custom add-ons it seems, beyond whacking the files. However, HACS and the HA OS when running can’t release locks on the relevant directories so they can’t be removed. This makes sense since several restarts of HA are needed to get these things working initially to find them and pick up configurations etc.

Nevertheless, what is the answer to this problem beyond start again or restore from backup, neither of which are pretty solutions.

I think this should be clearer since almost all newbies will go up several blind alleys when starting out with HA as I have done here. All the docs focus on how to get things working, which is fair, but also this seems to be lacking. Unless I am truly awful at searching in which case I appolgise.

So it won’t delete using the ellipsis menu of the repository on the HACs screen? Do you get an error message?

OMG - where is my mobile hole of shame - I read that “so many times” and I could not seem to find it for my install. Thank you for your reply. I have sorted it now.

Welcome to HA - where ALL the good things are hidden in an ellipsis menu somewhere…
