(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻┻ DeskPi Pro Active Cooling and Front USB ports

Can anyone confirm if this is working now? I tried to follow some of the steps and troubleshooting seen in this thread and it didn’t work.

I can’t get the cooling or usb front ports of the deskpi pro to work.

Just ran across this today as I’m trying to get the fan working in my DeskPi pro. It keeps failing. Here is the log:

In the console, I don’t see anything like ttyUSB* when I list /dev:

I think this is finally working. I pulled the power TWICE after running the serial configurator (missed that initially) and ttyUSB0 became available. Configured the DeskPi Pro add-in for that and it now seems to be running.

Anyone getting stuck just on the install?

Ok I got this fixed - apparently as of Apr 2026 HA no longer automatically populates the BUILD_FROM arg so it has to be set. I forked the original code and changed the first few lines of the DockerFile with the below lines and it now builds correctly:

ARG BUILD_FROM=ghcr.io/home-assistant/base:latest

FROM $BUILD_FROM

I’ll take a patch if you submit. I can’t test so I’m not going to make blind changes.

Yes; I've been using my deskpi without the outer case due to lack of cooling fan since I switched to HAOS. I saw your suggestion yesterday and confirmed this works on HAOS 17.3 snapshot flashed to SSD removed from the deskpi build using pi-imager to wipe and install and adding the deskpi cooling app successfully by following your edit to line 1 of "Dockerfile".

Since this has yet to be opened as an issue, and I'm not familiar with the method to create patch file from original, I uploaded both files in an open ticket. with request for patch for those encountering the same issue.

For anyone looking to replicate my steps, I used Samba Share app from HAOS configuration credentials in Root Explorer app in my phone to copy the "Dockerfile" file found at smb:/addons/deskpi/HassOSDeskPiPro/DeskPiPro edit it locally, then paste it over original in above location. Then update repositories and install the Deskpi Cooling app.

But the prior steps needed to manually download the repo to edit it were:
mkdir /addons/HassOSDeskPiPro
cd /addons/HassOSDeskPiPro
git clone GitHub - adamoutler/HassOSDeskPiPro: Temperature Control for Desk Pi Pro in Home Assistant · GitHub
(entered in Terminal as one copy and paste line).

The Samba Share app was recommended as a recurring solution to the issue of editing read only file system like HAOS. BUT personal use of such methods and code implies to use at your own risk; make a backup copy and store it remotely prior to editing, ect, ect... be confident and safe when doing such. But I share because I'm often finding incomplete or not easily followed steps in shared posts. There are other methods like Terminal that can be used to those more comfortable with it.

Thanks for sharing this! And I hope the developer finds the suggestion useful to patch for others to use without having to manually edit to use.
