Device has a quirk, but not expected enttities

I have these Stareyes SS-C01Z LED Strip Controllers. The box says “Powered by Tuya” FWIW.

I can’t find a pairing or reset button. It went into pair mode on first power up, I don’t know how one would re-pair it.

The more pressing issue is missing entities. Shouldn’t there be one to dim the LEDs? The device has a quirk.

I don’t see any entities or clusters for brightness:

Is the issue that the quirk is incorrect? The user manual does show the device having a brightness setting with Tuya Smart Life, but I am using with Home Assistant of course.

Will all devices with the same quirck show the same behavior?

I don’t know if I should try and get this working, or just use it as a smart switch to turn some LEDs on to full brightness. I imagine there are better choices for LED controllers that work with home assistant (whether zigbee or wifi/matter).

No, there won’t be a specific entity to dim. It’s part of the light.your_entity_name, the same one you use to toggle the light. All it should need is the extra brightness data:

action: light.turn_on
target:
  entity_id: light.kitchen_island_lights_zha_group_0x0002
data:
  brightness_pct: 54

Looks like Stareyes cheaped out on the Set button so they could save a penny or 2 at your expense. If you’re feeling adventurous, pry open the cover and see if there’s a hidden microswitch. Hopefully, they didn’t cheap out on that too

If you’re still interested in getting the same model, this one has the Set button.

No idea if getting a replacement will fix your issue. FWIW, I had a look at the clusters which should be returned by that quirk, and you’re missing the LevelControl & Color clusters

                INPUT_CLUSTERS: [
                    Basic.cluster_id,
                    Identify.cluster_id,

                    Scenes.cluster_id,
                    OnOff.cluster_id,
                    LevelControl.cluster_id,
                    Color.cluster_id,
                    LightLink.cluster_id,
                    TuyaManufCluster.cluster_id,
                ],

Interesting. I will try and find a control for this in Home Assistant.
