Hi folks, I know that there’s already a gazillion posts on Bali shades, and I read almost all of them (all that I could find) and I am still struggling. Hope some one can point me to a new direction!
The background: I’ve been using the Bali Gateway for the past 3 years with countless app issues. I finally pulled the trigger to get a Zooz 800 Zwave stick and slapped it on my HAOS on Proxmox as a VM. I have 6 roman shades and 1 roller shade. All 6 roman shades paired super fast without any issues. However I just can’t get the roller shade to pair no matter what I do. HA simply could not find the device.
Things I tried:
long press for 7 seconds to reset
long press for 15 seconds until the light flashes really really fast
try pairing multiple times consecutively
point the antenna in various directions
restart HA instance and ZWAVE JS
restart the server
clean up the area around antenna and the components on the shade
FWIW the roman shades are way further from the stick than the roller shade is.
I don’t have repeaters in the house but my house is also very small.
Now I don’t know what to try next. Thanks in advance for any dirctions!
Ugh, after battling with this for the whole day, of course I figured this out shortly after I post this question…
In short, apparently, no matter how long you press the button to factory reset, you can never actually factory reset. I have a remote that has been broken for a very long time. Since I never actually needed it, I didn’t really try to fix it. However, since so many places say “exclude from the remote first”, I figured maybe I HAVE to revive the remote and try exclude it.
It took me a while to fix up the remote (mainly cleaning the battery liquid) and I could finally turn it on. It is flimsy and often turns off, but I managed to try:
reset the remote → did nothing
browse what shades are available → no shades are found
include this shade → couldn’t pair
exclude this shaed → success → and I was like… WHAT?
So after reviving the remote and exclude the shade, now it finally can pair with HA.
This incident actually scares the heck of me for multiple reasons:
why is the factory reset on the shade not an actual factory reset?
if, for whatever reason, I lost the remote, or could not repair this exact remote anymore, does that mean I can never use this shade ever again? I can’t tell if this is a ZWave thing or this specific vendor’s thing. This property of zwave is enough for me to not buy any zwave devices any more.
Anyways, problem solved and hope this could help some people in the future.
At work but looking forward to trying this when I get home. I was able to pair the blind to HA after I reset the remote but found the top and bottom was off so had to recalibrate. I think i couldnt add back the remote after pairing with HA so reset the blind (un pairing the HA connection) and after pairing the remote it wouldnt let me repair to HA. Hope I can find a way to adjust top and bottom positions with HA and get rid of the remote all together
