Hi, everyone. First post for me on this forum so I hope I’m in the right area. If not, I’ll gladly post this elsewhere.
I recently got the home automation bug (hence my name on here) and for now have Home Assistant running on a Raspberry Pi.
Having repainted our house, my wife and I knew we’d need to replace most of our light fixtures, which we are in the process of doing. Most of the fixtures say they are dimmable, but say they need “LED dimmers”. I’ve had a number of Insteon dimmers around the house for years with mixed results on dimming LEDs - many of my LED bulbs and fixtures flicker when dimmed. My research so far shows that Insteon is a leading-edge dimmer and LEDs really need trailing-edge dimmers or ELV dimmers.
I have already decided to part ways with Insteon due to this and a couple of other issues not relevant to this post. I have yet to decide on which way to go - Z-Wave or Zigbee and have heard and seen arguments both ways in many places. I would prefer not to use Wi-Fi. A friend recommends Lutron’s Caseta but I want, if at all possible, to avoid proprietary systems and their higher price points.
I am having trouble finder “LED dimmers” or ELV dimmers which are either Z-Wave or Zigbee. I am also having trouble finding more information beyond what the manufacturers state. Lutron does have an ELV dimmer in the Caseta line but my preference is to avoid this as I stated.
I hope someone has some experience in this space and can help, or point me in a direction so I can explore myself.
I am located in Canada and so far I love Home Assistant (and the podcast).
Thank you
Phil
