DIMO Integration

As one of the first ones to build on DIMO, me and another experienced HA integration developer came up with a custom integration.

Quick background. We both started off reversing, documenting and developing for the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) remote car API. I developed a Python library and an Android app, and numerous projects built on that work, including home assistant integrations. However, after about 5 years, JLR pulled the plug and spent considerable amounts of resources on locking down the API, making it very clear that third party API access was now forbidden.

I figured it was time to find something new, and I stumbled upon DIMO. An open connected car platform where anyone can connect their vehicles and gain access to vehicle data, either through a limited software connection, or a OBD2 dongle.

This Home Assistant integration is the first community project built on DIMO. So if you’ve been wanting your car data in Home Assistant, and no existing integration works for you, then perhaps this has you covered.

The integration is new, but seems to work very well. The DIMO developer console is still in a bit of a rudementary state though, so any feedback that can be provided will be very helpful I’m sure.

Feel free to give it a spin and see if it works for you.

The integration has been submitted to HACS, but with the current massive backlog who knows when it will be merged.
