Direct Zigbee Binding from in-wall switch modules (e.g. Ubisys C4) to smart light groups – Recommendations & Feedback?

Hi everyone,

I am setting up a lighting control system using standard momentary wall switches, smart Zigbee bulbs, and an in-wall Zigbee module.

My primary requirement is HA-independent control via direct Zigbee Binding: if Home Assistant or the coordinator goes down, pressing the wall switch must still control the lights directly.

The Setup

  • Bulbs: Smart Zigbee bulbs powered with permanent 230V, bound inside a Zigbee Group.
  • Switches: Standard wall push-buttons connected to an in-wall module.
  • No Load: The module’s relay output (if present) remains unused.

To add a bit more context: it seems the Ubisys Control Unit C4 handles this perfectly, but it’s quite expensive.

Has anyone actually tested it? Do you know of any cheaper alternatives working on the same principle (mains-powered direct binding transmitter)?
