DMX, Sidus Link Bridge & Aputure, Govee fans

DMX lighting is set up for stage shows.
Sidus Link Bridge is similar, but more about mobile control of proprietary lights by Aputure for video shoots.

Govee, I am not talking about the lights. I got that already. There is a hack for humidifiers and air purifiers as well. What I have are Govee fans and heaters. Currently, I have two input Booleans to turn on High, Medium, and Off. This triggers routines in my Alexa connection to control the fans through the Govee addon. The Off positions turns off High and Medium buttons in HA, thus turning off the fans. Currently, it is a work-around. I wish that Govee get with the HA Team to produce an awesome cloud/local setup Integration. Even if a hub must be used, this would be better than nothing. There are no announcements about Govee and Matter, but if they don’t, it would be nice to have Home Assistant control everything about Govee, to include the special controls that are currently available only in the app. Not just for lights, for all Govee products. Govee also makes a cool looking space heater. Works well.

I wish I knew why so many companies want to keep everything in the cloud. Doesn’t that cost them money? Azure and AWS are not cheap. I would do everything possible to allow for local control of my devices if I were a smart home products provider. Tuya, Govee, Smartthings, Ring, and many other products want you to rely on their cloud services. In some cases, I would do both. It would be local control with cloud backup. If my company went under, local control would take over completely. The only issue, no OTA updates.

How I wish I knew some Python to design software that can control certain sequences in stage lighting and movie studio production. There is a DMX hack I am aware of. I work with someone who has equipment. The next step is to start buying my own equipment like a decent computer, DMX USB controller, and a few lights to begin with. In case anyone is interested, here is a link:

The request I am looking for is a GUI setup for this. Instead of adding devices in the config file, there should be a “DMX2MQTT” set up for this. An add-on that will allow you to assign universes, channels, and entity types. Each device would be a “DEVICE”. Each controlled element, channel, would be an “ENTITY”.

I know some people may respond saying, why do you want DMX? It is for stage shows, live entertainment and DJs. I want it because I can, just looking for a future implementation that would allow for easier integration for DMX setup.

Aputure is the developer of lights and gear for filmmaking and video production. They also make gear for audio. Sidus Link is a protocol that allows someone with a mobile device or tablet to control certain aspects of their studio lights.

Some smart home YouTubers who use Aputure and with the proprietary Sidus Link bridge would be able to set up their lights color, white color temperature, brightness, and other features. Using HASS.Agent, they can set up keyboard presses in Automation to turn on smoke machines while they are talking to the camera. Why not set up lights around my house, just because I can. I would like to see Sidus Link added to Home Assistant. I currently do not see any articles about this, and I do not know if they have APIs for this either.

I currently have three lights with Aputure and I use them on shoots. I think it would be cool to see an integration with the Sidus Link protocol. If there is no API for this, shame on Aputure.

There are the lights I like to control with DMX Artnet. There are other products I want to get as well.

In the meantime, I am loving the HA experience. I’ve learned a lot. I will begin taking a course in Python, but that will not get me to the awesome dudes/gals’ skillet, who design our HACS, Integrations, and Add-ons. Keep up the excellent work HA and all others who contribute to this cause.

Thank you.

  1. They get your data

  2. You can get and control it without punching a hole in your firewall.
