Do I need a Hue Bridge for the Hue API?

Hello,

I’m completely new to smart home in general.
I’ve set up currently a RPI 2 with newest hassio version and CC2652RB with 5 hue e27 bulbs.
Integration in Apple Home App worked.

I changed bevor switching to hassio the startup color of some bulbs.
Now I wanted to change the startup color with the Hue API and wonder, if I need a Hue Bridge in order to use the API ?
The only reason I’m using hassio is to get rid of the bridge and use also IKEA Tradfri bulbs, so hopefully you can help me with this

Yes, you need the Hue bridge for this.

The term hass.io has been deprecated more than a year ago, it’s called Home Assistant OS now.

Not necessarily, as with your coordinator hardware CC2652RB you are entitled to run Zigbee2MQTT with HA and define startup behaviour of Hue lights by device specific configuration.

Thank you! I was already thinking about selling everything :smiley:
How can I send a mqtt command ? Can I do that in Home Assistant OS ?

Ah cool, didn’t know that!

@TaLInGal sorry for the misinformation.

Hello,
I was able to change the startup color.
I have a Mac so I used the “MQTT Explorer” app from Appstore
Thank you!
