Does anyone live near to Beverley (HU17) in the UK?

Hi

I need to find someone that lives near to Beverley in the UK that wants to get involved with a “DIY SOS - Big Build” next month.

We’re going to be providing all the #Velbus hardware to control the lighting and heating / cooling.

There will be an Odroid on site that can run HomeAssistant & Node-Red.

But what I’d love to do is involve someone local to them to create a front end layout.

Nothing fancy or overly time consuming, just something nice for them to interact with.

The build is due to be handed over on May 22nd 2025.

Hey! Very interested in this! I live in Hessle, HU13!

Hi Adam

Great to e-meet you.

If you’re up for it, I’d be delighted to have a chat and see what you are happy to do for them in the time available.

Can we chat on Monday or Tuesday?

Cheers,
Stuart

Sounds great, I’ve DM’d you my email address.

I have to publicly thank @adamlonsdale for his incredible efforts over the last 9 days.

He very very patiently waited for us to complete the physical installation before working tirelessly for two days to create something truly spectacular .

Even when the donated Android tablet refused to render his creation properly, he didn’t miss a beat.
He found a solution and ensured he delivered excellence.

The entire TV production team were astounded by what he delivered, especially in such a short time.

One of my favourite moments was when a Control4 installer saw what he was doing and said, “Wow, that’s impressive”

We’ll post a link to the broadcast programme after it goes to air sometime in the autumn.

@adamlonsdale
I salute you sir :man_bowing:

Thanks also to @Cereal2nd for his tireless efforts over many years to ensure #Velbus is fully supported in HomeAssistant.

Genuinely without his work, none of this would have been possible.

Well, that’s it.

@adamlonsdale and I have delivered THREE amazing projects for #BBC and SouthShore TV.

The first will go to air in the Children in Need period.

After that, the Big Build that started this wonderful journey, which is being broadcast on BBC One on Dec 30th .

And to complete our experience is a truly incredible build we have just finished in Southampton.

We’ll update this thread when we’re allowed to.

They don’t really mention the building control system in the episode.

But enough to say that all the lighting and heating is handled by #Velbus tech.

@adamlonsdale did a astoundingly good job on bringing everything in the building into HA.

Here’s the link to the 2025 Children in Need #DIYSOS build.

Again, All the lighting is controlled by #Velbus

A bit disappointing that the AirCon team didn’t engage with us and use the thermostats within the Velbus panels.

Instead they insisted on pulling in their own data cable and putting thermostats in every room, right next to the Velbus ones :rofl:

Other then that, yet again @adamlonsdale worked his amazing magic with HA to present a single point of control to the building.

The final project we worked on for #DIYSOS in 2025 is due to go to air in late summer 2026.

It’s “only” a three bedroom house, which received a full back to brick renovation and an extension, in less than 5 days

Unless I’d seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn’t have believed it was possible, especially as my own home is still being renovated and we’re at year five :sob::sob::sob::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:

The Velbus tech is extensively used to deliver some amazing features for the family.

Yet again, @adamlonsdale was incredible.

This time, he worked with a team from Solent University to create something truly spectacular.

We aren’t allowed to say any more.
