Does Home Assistant automatically notify when new firmware for EP lite?

I have three EP Lites in my HAOS system. The firmware on all is not current. In reading the various forums and web sites and discussions it seems that other folks’ Home Assistant installations alert them when new firmware needs to be installed in their EP Lites (similar to updates to addons and integrations). I have not seen this at all in my HAOS. All three devices are displayed in the ESPHome integration.

Can someone confirm or deny or correct me as to whether the EP Lite firmware notifications should be displayed as they come available like addons and integrations are?

Thank you,

To confirm, do you mean firmware updates in terms of the config the vendor provides (as hosted on GitHub) or updates in terms of ESPHome version? Or both?

I haven’t looked at this for a while but if I recall correctly you will only get notifications about updates for ESPHome version. And when you install that it will also pull updates to the vendor config per GitHub.

I’m interested in this too.

I think we want to know: why doesn’t the EPL receive updates like, say, the the Voice Preview Edition (VPE)?

I don’t need to being VPE into ESPHome Device Builder to have it receive updates.

I believe that the OTA firmware update for the Everything Presence Lite is only available if you bought one that does the Bluetooth setup stuff (it’s the one with the nicer case). If you have an early EP Lite that came with the 3d printed case where you had to set the wireless network manually, I’m pretty sure you can’t update that one OTA.

That said, after one of the last times I reflashed my older EP Lite I noticed that there is a disabled update entity now. I haven’t tried enabling it, so I have no idea if it would work or not.

My EPL has the need case and did the Bluetooth onboarding but, no automatic update.

Are you getting notifications at all for the updates?

I don’ have one of the fancy case ones, so I am guessing a bit. Perhaps you have to enable the update entity from the device screen for that EPL. Also, I don’t think you can auto update things from the updater entity without some automation.

It’s possible the Everything Presence folks don’t update the EPLs unless they really need to, so it’s possible you won’t see updates everytime ESPHome updates. The EPL I just manually flashed last week is showing ESPHome 2025.11.2, so that means there haven’t been any EPL updates since then.

Thank everyone for replying. What I ended up doing was simply taking my laptop and walking to each of the EP Lites and doing a manual update from the web page

The device info box for the EPLite devices in ESPHome

Everything Presence Lite
by EverythingSmartTechnology
Firmware: 1.4.1 (ESPHome 2025.11.2)

this is from the device page Device Info box in ESPhome

In looking at the “configuration” entities on one of the EPLite devices (from the ESPHome integration) I saw the

update.everything_presence_lite_5dxxxx_everything_presence_lite_firmware

so I enabled it on the one I was looking at. I left all the others as is, that is, disabled. I’ll report back if that makes any difference.

To answer some of the questions, I mean updates in terms of the firmware the vendor provides (like I’d get from the link above). Tho I hadn’t considered that ESPhome may do it’s own thing.

All of mine have the nice case. It’s been a while so I don’t recall if I set them up via bluetooth or not.

Currently and to date no notifications for any EP lite updates at all. I do get notifications for other hardware such as zwave devices and zigbee devices.

Thanks again.
