Down hard after update - no boot device found

Hi, I tried to update to the latest version (15.? from 14.?) last week. Been running great up to then. I can’t remember which I did first, Core or OS but the second one must have failed as I had no comms after.

I’ve plugged in a monitor today and the device (Intel NUC) is telling me no boot device found - coincidence?

I have backups on Nabu Casa cloud - not sure what to do next? Is the HD fried or is it just an issue with the update? Could the update have damaged the HD?

Thanks!!!

I had the same thing happen on my NUC, not sure why. Needed a full install and restore, but my SSD was fine.

You could also check if the NUC Bios is still switched UEFI not that your CMOS Battery reached end of life or somehow your BIOS was reset and defaulted back to legacy mode.

I once had that issue with an emtpy battery and it took me a while to realise what had happened since running HA headless so I wasn’t aware that it simply didn’t boot at all.

Thanks for the reply, I presume you had to restore from a boot disk?

It was in UEFI boot mode with no boot devices listed. I switched it to Legacy Mode and it could see the SATA drive. But when I booted in Legacy it still said no Boot device found. Not sure how I can reflash the SSD if it’s not detected…

Is there a SATA Operation (or something similar) in your BIOS? When I recently replaced a dead CMOS battery, I got the “no boot device found”. Some settings in the BIOS (Intel mini pc) were reset to defaults. In my case, the SATA Operation was set for RAID (which I don’t use). Once I changed that, the disk was recognized and booted right up to HA (no need to do a backup restore).

I’ll have a look now, thank you!

No luck, set to AHCI not RAID. Couldn’t find anything else relevant in the BIOS. I’ll try flash the SSD with a boot USB…

My SSD was visible in BIOS but boot partition was gone (or corrupt). I used an Ubuntu USB boot to reflash the a restore from cloud.

Hopefully next update will be fine.
