What would you thin about an inatgration that would upload a DVD or Blueray up to a gallery so that you can view the DVD as A DVD on a tablet or TV ??? what do you think…
I would think the “inventor” of such an integration is a bit behind the evolution.
DVDs are a physical storage format, so talking about DVD as something you view on a TV is kind of wrong.
You view a MPEG2 stream which for many years have been able to be stored on a server and played from there.
There are also Matroska container formats to get extra features, like chapters, subtitles, menus and so on, and that format can even use superior formats to what a DVD or Bluray can provide.
There are already a huge amount of standalone DVD/Bluray rippers out there and it should only be needed once per disc, so what will your integration improve in that area?
There are also already a huge amount of players, both standalone and integrated into HA, so what will your integration improve in that area?
You mean Plex? Kodi? Jellyfin?
How does home automation play a role in this? ![]()
I want something that shows the DVD as if it was in a DVD player but instead held in a digital copy on a NAS … wouldnt that be cool to have all the extra features.
It is more a media center task than a home automation task.
I have a ton of DVD’s and I see them at the trift stores and I think how cool it would be to have an intagration that if turned a DVD into a .iso would then allow then end device wether its a tablet or TV run a DVD just like the DVD had been loaded into that tablet, mobile,or TV . Some of the special features of Tropic thunder are awesome.
I just rip mine onto a drive and play them with Plex.
If I want a special feature I just rip that too.
I have about 4TB right now. Like 800 DVD’s/Blueray.
I also have all the discs so I can’t be accused of stealing.
Done.
And exactly right this has nothing to do with Home Assistant.
It is already available, but it is more a media center thing, than home automation.
Look at the many media centers instead.
I do not know what feature the different ones have, but VLC, Plex and Kodi could be a start.
The home automation part comes in when the media center needs to be controlled.
