Ecobee Thermostat Replacement bad Display

My Ecobee Thermostat Display is going bad. I need to replace it. I am slowly moving my house to HA. But I noticed on the compatibility list that Ecobee shut down API access. If I buy another Ecobee is this an issue with using a new Ecobee Thermostat? Or does any one have a recommendation on a good Thermostat for use with HA other then Ecobee.?

You can control Ecobee thru the Homekit Device integration without needing the API key if you want to stick with Ecobee.

However… note that the Homekit integration does not expose all of the attributes that the native API-required integration does. Here are the sensors I can see using Homekit. There is no way, for example, to tell if the system is using Aux or regular heat, or what stage of cooling is running…
