I purchased the Ecowitt gateway and after hours of being frustrated I decided to come here for help. I followed the instructions for the web based integration instructions and the gateway is just never discovered by homeassistant. I even tried adding it using old videos. So using port 4199 and 8123, neither works. IP and domain name don’t work. I’'ve been through the forums and it seems to be isolated to just my device. I’m not gonna return it or anything cause it came all the way from China but just a really disappointing experience.
I will attach the screenshots proving I DID configure it correctly. Please don’t give me the age old Reddit answer of “worked for me”. I just need some clever ideas to get this thing to integrate. Thanks for any help
According to the documentation, the Ecowitt integration will provide the information needed to enter into the Ecowitt app or web UI. Did it do that and did you try it?
The integration will display a Server IP / Host Name, Path, and Port. You can input it into the Ecowitt configuration in one of two ways:
Thanks. I had to ask because I got the impression you tried different variations and it wasn’t clear if the information in the screenshot was one of those attempts or the integration’s suggested data.
I’ve tried every single variation for hours. I even tried the Ecotwitt Proxy but that also didn’t work. The best I can figure is that the Ecowitt integration no longer works with HA 2025.0 and up. A lot of other users are experiencing this issue
If you’re interested, you may wish to consider Ecowitt2mqtt. It’s available for installation as an Add-on. Obviously you also need an MQTT Broker (also available as an Add-on) and the MQTT integration.
After you configure it to communicate with your Ecowitt gateway (and asuming you have a functional MQTT Broker and MQTT integration), it will automatically discover all your Ecowitt devices and create corresponding entities in Home Assistant.
For more information, refer to its extensive documentation.
NOTE
You’ll see in its documentation that configuring communications between the gateway and ecowitt2mqtt involves slightly different data than in the Ecowitt integration. If after configuration it fails to communicate with your gateway then it implies there may in fact be a problem with the gateway.
So I had a very similar experience setting up Ecowitt, tried the proxy, tried everything… in the end I got it working as indicated in the guide, BUT seems that you need to restart the Ecowitt Gateway to pickup and use the config you update… FYI just got a new firmware (GW2000 gateway) that now supports sending data to a MQTT endpoint…
