Ecowitt wittboy

An question about HA and Ecowitt wittboy, must I have an hub like gw2000? If I can, does I missed some information that an gw2000 can offer?

Yes, I believe you need a hub - I use the gw2000 as it came with the Wittboy. The hub can connect over WIFI or LAN so it is quite flexible.

The Wittboy itself transmits over 433/868/915/920 MHz depending on location so, to avoid the hub, you would need the right receiver and code to interpret the information.

…either way, you need a device.

I confirm you need a hub.

The hub will interact via HTTP request or MQTT with Home Assistant. You have to know that MQTT from ecowitt is not JSON compliant, so you will need some code to transform it.

Thanx for your information

Soon Wittboy powered by Shelly will be available, which will not require a hub to communicate with HA.

Do you know if I will be able to upgrade an existing Wittboy to run the Shelly integration?

I’m not generally opposed to keep running the GW1200 as it also doubles as a room temp/humidity sensor, but I’d consider it nonetheless.

This new Wittboy will not work with Shelly integration only with BTHome or ZHA/Z2M, no WiFi on board.

This is a hardware difference so old Wittboys will still need a hub.

Thanks for the added detail (-: BTHome is also a great option!

Yes, I think it will be a very cool device. I also want to buy one so I’m eagerly waiting for availability
