Energy dashboard - comparing periods

Hi,

I’m fairly new to HomeAssistant, but I’ve got it talking nicely with my heating system and energy meter now. I’ve been using the energy dashboard but I’m not sure what combination of add-ons/configuration to use to achieve some more detailed comparisons.

I have two needs:

  • to compare today’s usage to that of the same days within the previous 12 weeks, e.g. if it is a monday, compare to the average of the previous 12 mondays
  • to be able to see my usage in cost terms as well as kWh

I don’t expect the averages to change very rapidly, so it would be fine to run something to work out the values once a month and save them somewhere.

But I’m not sure whether this is the sort of thing the energy dashboard might have on the roadmap (in which case I could make a PR) or if there is a different approach that would use HomeAssistant in a more simple way.

Any advice greatfully received!

Thanks

First I’d like to use the data to work out an average usage, e.g. on a monday, the last 12

If you click on the three dots in the date finder card (top right) you should get a “compare data” option.

This will give you comparisons with the previous day/week/month/quarter/year depending on what you’re viewing.

Not as detailed as what you’re describing, but it’s a start.

Thanks, I was using that but I wanted to try and get a more precise comparison: it so nearly does it (well, the UI parts anyhow). So I suppose my question is really a call for “any prior art in a similar vein”.

I also saw the homeassistant-data science add-ons: I didn’t try them first of all as I wanted to stay within the HA ecosystem since it works nicely for my non-technical users, and that sounded (from my reading) like a bit of a different direction.
