Entity State - Multiple inputs

Is it possible to have more than one source set a sensor entity state?

Typically a Telemetry message would be used to set entity state, but during HA restart entity state is unknown until next Telemetry message is set. During this time it would be convenient to poll entity which would then respond with different type message.

Set sensor Entity State from Telemetry: tele\sonoff\SENSOR
Set sensor Entity State from polling: stat\sonoff\STATUS10

Possibly some type of automation that if Entity State is unknown then issue poll command. My problem is not knowing how to manually push data to an Entity State. Is this possible?

Examples would be helpful

Can’t you use the retain flag and the broker will push the last msg back to HA at restart?

Or at HA restart ask for a status update?

This is working for me… just have to wait one Tasmota teleperiod after an HA restart for status
