My automation for laundry status was working and somehow it broke. I now encounter the error in the subject" Error: This alert cannot be acknowledged". I have set the parameter to “can_acknowledge: false” in my alert.yaml file.
Is this a bug to report? Here’s a screenshot of the yaml code:
Alert is one of those very old integrations that barely works and no one wants to open the worm can to sort it out.
I’ve actually never used it because I have heard the stories.
I suggest using another way.
Yes, in my research I saw there have been problems. Do you have a recommendation for a better process? I don’t want to go down the path of paying for SMS messages. Used to be I could send email to text, but the last I checked, all the major carriers stopped providing that capability.
You have can_acknowledge set to false. So it can’t be acknowledged. Remove that.
Pretty sure that did it. If there’s a problem, I’ll come back.

Somehow 1/2 of the contact sensor is missing. 
Go figure…
So… the “acknowledgement” wasn’t the problem after all. I was skeptical of that solution since the automation had been working well for ~6 months. The fact that the contact sensor wasn’t picking up the washing machine door opening and closing was the issue.
