ESP-01M IR Receiver Pronto Code Limit?

I’m trying to configure my ESP8285 ESP-01M IR Infrared Transmitter Receiver Module with multiple binary sensors that are triggered when specific IR codes are received.

As long as I don’t create more than 5-6 binary sensors in my YAML, it works. However, when I add all the sensors/codes I need (35 or so), and then install, the device no longer responds.

I’ve tried disabling the web portal and fallback AP - no joy.

Might be too much for the resources of your Esp.
You didn’t manage to get the signals decoded by any protocol? Pronto eats lot of memory.

That would be hard job.
I mean that the receiver code didn’t decode it with any protocol like NEC for example?

So, I’ve found something called ‘IRTool’ which lets me paste the raw hex and it returns some… other stuff…

How I use that with my ir receiver in ESPHome, though, I have no idea…

Exactly that yes, the pronto is displayed in the logs when I point a remote at it and press a button. And they work fine and trigger my binary sensors as expected, but, yeah, seems like there’s a limit. Which makes it a bit useless, unfortunately!

Does removing this help at all?
Sometimes there is lots of raw signal noise around and spamming the logs with this could be slowing things down too.

String data is too long for the device to work. Is there a format to specify the codes as numbers? That would give you 10X the code storage capacity.

The other alternative you have is to have ESPHome reflect those codes as an event in Home Assistant and then process those codes in Home Assistant using the script of your choice to determine what action needs to be taken.

Change dump: pronto to dump: all when listening to your remote presses.

With any luck, your remote is also sending other (shorter) protocols like nec:

Hopefully that’ll fit in the measly 1MB flash the ESP-01M uses. If not, you’re gonna have to look into getting a board with a bigger flash size and wiring your own IR receiver.

Play with dump: nec and see if you get the signals reliably received (decoded), means that you repeatedly get the same signal when you press a button.

If yes, decode all your buttons and go with nec codes. For sure you use less memory compared to Pronto.
