I just got one of these working. A little disappointed, probably my own fault tho. The camera doesn’t seem to work very well in less than Bright lighting. I looked at ESPhome and found little to help. The camera is the standard OV2640 Is ther a better camera that auto adjusts to light levels? I already set the brightness to +2, it didn’t help much I am setting this up in my kitchen near floor level so I can keep track of my dog who has seizures. Would the OV5640 be better? I see that it has a better field of view, but I have found little else on it
I have had quite a few ESP32-Cam cameras as well. Used them to mod a camera into a doorbell, used them to monitor my 3D printer, … In short; they are bad. Image quality is disappointing, you’ll have low fps, the devices often suffer from overheating or bad connection.
I switched to other off-the-shelf cameras. I hate it that they often call home, but I’ve blocked that in my router so I that’s no issue anymore. On the plus size, they are vastly better at basically everything you’d expect from a wifi camera.
Thanks Ken for your honesty, although I wish I had it sooner. I was hoping it would work out since it will be at outlet height, actually mounted in the wall behind a plastic plate so it is away from busy dogs.
