Hi,
I have no idea why I bought this https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/ESP32-S3-Smart-86-Box-Development_1601627377782.html the other day.
Guess I thought it would be simple enough to get it to work with HA, but for the love of me I can’t get any yaml code to work with it. On the odd occasion I do get a very simple yaml past the esphome “install” check, I get no screen and nothing useful at all.
Does anyone have a decent template I can use for this, to get me started?
Many thanks,
Fergus.
Being an S3, look here.

I have been seeing these a lot of Aliexpress lately for around $30. They check all the boxes for me
Fast CPU
Lots of memory
Great format
Easy wall mount as a wall switch
120v relay included
Does not require programming another internal device for LVGL like NSPanel
Many thanks to everybody on the ESPhome discussion board for helping me get this working. I initially tested it with the openHASP project. This works very well …
Stay away from the P4 threads. Those are different.

Never seen one like that before. It’s definably not a GUITION 4” 480x480 ESP32-S3-4848S040 so don’t bother posting to that thread.
You would need to get schematics and some sample code. Do you even know what type of screen it has?
Next time get this one
ESP32-P4 Smart 86 Box Development Board, Based On ESP32-P4 Controller With RISC-V 32-bit Dual-core And Single-core Processors, Onboard 4inch 720 × 720 Pixel Touch Display, 5-point Touch | ESP32-P4-WIFI6-Touch-LCD-4B | ESP32-P4-86-Panel-ETH-2RO
It costs about the same but has a faster CPU and voice support. And works well with ESPHome. They have these on Ali as well.
Thanks for the reply. I know it is not a QUITION. But, it is an S3 and didn’t want the OP to wander into a P4 thread. All I was after.
Okay. A while back I would have tried to get this thing to work, but older me should just bin it and get the one you suggest. Easier on all of us.
Lesson learned! And I shall return when I manage to brick the new one as well.
Many thanks folks, I ver much appreciate your help.

I should, whike I’m here, ask where to start when I get the P4 delivered…
Oh, and Andrew, the camera one is good for basic stuff, right? I deffo don’t need RJ45 but I don’t know what the other funky stuff is.

unless your going to use it’s wall mount hardware you don’t need the Ethernet port version.
I got it just to get the wall mount bracket and the built in power supply
Power supply? I see only a relay and RS485, which I don’t think are useful for me. I want to put it into a wall switch box, so I was thinking I need some kind of PSU to go from 240V to USBC power, but your power supply comment has confused me!
