EspHome Builder not Starting after Upgrade

Just Upgraded from 2026.5.3 to 2026.6.0 & it no longer starts.

Shows as Running in the Settings/Apps & have tried resetting defaults & a full reboot.
Running a standard x86 build on an i5 NUC.
All other upgrades current.

Restored 2026.5.3 from Daily Backup & it's working fine now.

Tried the same on My Test Nuc, which is essentially the same Hardware & Base Software.
Upgraded Ok.

Tried again on the Live Nuc, Restoring Default Configs for EspHome
& again it failed, & restored successfully a 2nd time.

Can Someone who Understands the Log see a reason Why I can't Succeeded?

If you made use of the old behavior where it was accessible outside the HA UI, use port 62351 instead of 6052.

Thought I tried that, but will again when I'm back in.

Have also now found I can make 2026.5.3 fail in the same way by turning on the
"Use New Device Builder Preview".

I had external authentication turned on to allow VS Code to Communicate.

What's in My config if it's relevant.

So You suggest this will fix it?

Other Strage thing I notice after the Restore is My 3 Waveshare Devices firt appeared in Home Builder as New, but they now appear offline.

All 3 appear online & some an API connection.

Well, turning that off will make it work again in the HA UI for sure, and on that different port (automatic), but I am not sure how the linking with VSCode will go as the Builder has been redone by ESPHome.

I just use the built in YAML editor.

Now have it Working with External Auth Turned off,
(Still fails if on, but don't quite understand how it's meant to communicate externally).

Noticed also in the last few hours the Version has Moved from 2026.6.0 -> 2026.6.1.

I Generally Edit My Main Device yaml file in EspHome,
While having My Packages & LVGL's Open in in VS Code.

In the ESPHome VSCode Plugin, it is configured like this:-

Anyone Else know how this shoud be set for 2026.6.1 and future releases?

Try setting VSCode to use 192.168.59.5:62351

No idea if it'll work in 2026.6 though.

And make sure that VSCode extension is updated if applicable.

Hi @Phil23,

2026.6.1 shipped the same evening with a handful of auth-related fixes in the Device Builder. Before we file a bug, it'd be really helpful to know if you can still reproduce the crash loop on 2026.6.1 with "Disable external authentication" turned on.

If the crash loop is still there on 2026.6.1, please open an issue on the ESPHome Device Builder repo and include the log snippet you shared here. That's the fastest path to getting it fixed.

I can 100% Replicate it; just tried by turning it on & off a few times.
