ESPHome compatible invasive DIN power meter

Hello to all!

I’m searching for a DIN mounted power meter that is compatible with ESPHome and has the following features:

  • DIN Mounted
  • Invasive installation (I don’t want to fiddle with C-Clamp calibration)
  • NO Relay (i just care about monitoring)
  • No disassembly

nice to have:

  • LCD Display to show real time data

I was looking at the various tuya // tongou compatible one but i cannot find a suitable device

My goal is to put this device after the main entrance to monitor current coming from grid

Any suggestion?

Hi

I would have suggested the Powermeter that works great but it uses clamp ! Considering where you want to use it, I would strongly advise to use clamps as it keeps you isolated of main power and current !

You forgot to mention the most important factor, the max (or better range of) current to be measured.

As @Karosm said you really need to include voltage and current at the main entrance. With the words you used, most would assume you mean a house/dwelling unit or business. Unless you have VERY low usage (less than 20A) and relatively low voltage (less than 42V) you will have issues with a direct connection and really need to know what you are doing or risk an untimely end.

Most people who do what I think you want, use current transformers and voltage transformers. They provide more than enough accuracy for most applications.

Thank you all for the responses. my bad i forgot to add the specs.

I want to monitor an external dependance, so:

  • 220V AC
  • 3.3KWh // 15A MAX (1KWh average // 4.5A)

I would prefer an invasive installation with an all-in-one device to avoid having other wires in the control panel.

I had previously worked with electrical systems so i know how to wire everything safely to avoid being electrocuted or creating a fire hazard.

kWh is unit of energy
Ah is unit of electric charge.

A is current, which is needed to pick suitable power meter.
Anyway, did you have a look at Shelly Pro PM? They are high quality meters that work locally out of the box and don’t need hacking / tinkering.
4-channel version has display as well.

Not DIN mount and no display, but might otherwise meet your requirements.

@Karosm Oh, my bad, corrected the post to avoid confusion

@neel-m @Karosm Thanks for the suggestions, i think i will choose one of the two product suggested.

Or maybe the shelly-pro-4pm if i find a suitable template

Last question regarding Shelly usually comes with programming headers?

Shelly pro pm has and gen2 plus pm has as well. Afaik gen3 devices don’t.
Shelly has HA integration and works 100% local, stock firmware is quite complete. Never flashed one, but I expect it’s doable OTA as well…

No clamp & No relay - IMHO would be hard to find.
I’m using one TOMZN TOB9e-63M eWelink model and planning to install 4 more.

I went for Shelly PM Mini Gen3 super cheap and esphome compatible

I will 3D-print a din mount and add a screen at a later time using this

Thank you all for the support!
