European Energy Market Change from 1h tariffs to 15 min in 2025

How will the change from 1 hour tariffs to 15 minute intervall tariffs work if you use the HA Home Energy Management?

This change is for all EU countries, however it might only affect customers with contracts for tariff by hour. Need to get confirmation on this as the answer from a customer service was a bit badly formulated.

Commission Regulation 2017/2195 “Guideline on Electricity Balancing” (EBGL) provides for the harmonisation of the ISP to 15 minutes. Meaning that if you have a deal with your electric utility supplier with tariff per hour, some might change this and forward the 15 min tariffs to its customers.

If you are using the Home Assistent Energy Management with pricing for every kWh, this will change for plenty of customers in Europe due to the new tariffs that some utility providers in Europe will forward to its customers in 2025. Tibber, the energy company and platform might do. Their customer service did confirm that there is an ongoing development for these changes. However I need to find out more.

The smart energy meters that are installed in many homes across Europe should already have this implemented from the start.

I was trying to find more information about this online. I found that electricity suppliers in France have already got started. The “Svenska Kraftnät” in Sweden is having the dialog with Swedish suppliers on the new

Tibber (NL) will also move to 15 minute prices.

As HA only has the calculations of the hourly price in Energy Management, I expect there will be some discrepancies when looking at the prices. Wondering if the API will also return 15 minute prices, or that it will return an hourly prices with an average price.

I received an email from Tibber that the planned change for the total market has been postponed to the first of October 2025 due to technical preparations that need more time.

There is a PR proposed for utility meter to allow for different cycle intervals:

I think that was closed and wont go ahead. The answer was:

As per previous PRs. We can keep adding more options, but that isn’t a solution. Going to friendly decline this pull request, on the same grounds as the previous ones.

I’ve read through that thread and I cant make any sense from it. Will they completely decline and deny the 15 min interval ??? Hmm… dont get it. Confusing.

Time to fork and start editing…
