Experience with CS-201Z

Hi!

I wanted to know if anyone here has experience with the plant soil moisture sensor “Soil moisture sensor (CS-201Z)”. It’s one of those very cheap Tuya devices that I decided to try.

The issue is that the moisture value (soil humidity) almost never changes, even though here in the southern hemisphere we’re having temperatures above 35°C. Since it’s installed in a small garden bed, outdoors and in full sun, I would expect it to show changes fairly easily, but that doesn’t happen.

I’m not sure if I’m misunderstanding how the device works or how the soil actually retains moisture. For now, I’m worried my plants might die from dehydration.

Thanks in advance!

Have you calibrated it?
Have you tried it with high values of moisture in the soil to see how it responds?
What level of sensitivity is the setting? Dry, very dry, and super dry? How many decimal points?
Which Tuya integration are you using?

Please give those plants a water early in the early morning in light of the heatwaves you are having.

It hasn’t melted inside, has it? Any battery died from heat exposure? It does look a little discoloured.

Yes, I calibrated it. I did that by putting it in a glass of water, then drying it, and checking each of the values. But it seems to get stuck at a certain percentage and nothing else happens, even though right now it’s 34°C (that’s about 93°F).

I wanted to avoid root rot from overwatering — that was my goal.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
