Failed to initialize while uploading "using this computer"

I cannot produce a successful upload to a usb connected ESP-12E. Device manager sees the ESP as connected to COM12 port. I’ve held the boot button(FLASH) down while HA is “connecting”.

I’m on computer at work connected to my HA through Nabu Casa. My ESP-12E is at work with me plugged into my remote computer.

Am I missing something?

It needs to be plugged into the device running Home Assistant.
