I was unable to get the wires around the screws on the Zooz switch. You can see they are recessed. And the screws do not unscrew enough to fit the wires. Anyone have experience with this? I think I’m going to have to hire an electrician off of Thumbtack.
Thanks. I thought at least one of the wires was a loop like the wire on the bottom. So you’re saying just one of wires would be inserted into the one of the two holes, then tightened down with the screw?
Example, in the photo of the switch, on the top connection, turning the screw will tighten the wire, and in the bottom one will actually unwind it. Loose wires bring arcing, sparks, heat buildup, intermittent operations, brownouts ,and possible fire. The insulation on the wires looks nicked as well. Sleeving would help.
Eyelets with shrink insulation to cover the exposed wire at the wall switch or using the correct holes in your Zooz would be my next concern.
Yes, get a professional to do your wiring is my strong recommendation.
Yes, I think I know what to do now but the existing switch had no labels on it indicating which wire was which. Except for the green screw of course. And the colors of the wires were confusing. Definitely going to take some pictures!
The electrician will check which wire is live and which is switched before they start connecting things to your Zooz. Get it wrong is an unacceptable risk we are glad you have eliminated by calling a professional.
