There is no mention of encryption being on, and because of this, I just wasn’t aware that encryption was on, and did not know to turn it off, or where to turn it off.

I think that setting the encryption bit by location is wrong. It should be per-backup or backup job. You can enable and disable encryption back and forth on the same location. There will then be a mix of encrypted and unencrypted backups, with no way to distinguish which are encrypted or not.
The Samba back-up add-on also creates unencrypted backups in the very same location.

I tried in a new Firefox private window. I set encryption to on in the backup settings/location. I then tried a manual backup. There is no prompt to disable encryption, and no indication that it is encrypted.

Same issue. I tried migrating from a RPI5 to a Beelink. I loaded Linux to a USB and installed HA via Firefox. Good installation on Beelink. Trying to restore from backup while not creating a new home resulted in failure to load backup with no additional information given. Both with encrypted and non-encryped .tar files tried. I will create a new home then attempt to restore via the backup, but this is a real issue that needs elevation.

Confirmed. Set up new home, then was able to reload backup.

Same issue, try to migrate from Truenas VM to fresh proxmoe VE VM, it supposes to be a clean migration but still fail to restore, closed encryption didn’t help, version are 2025.2.5, tried edge and chrome to download and upload, I tried A/B test for several times.

Also no specific error fromha core logs, ha supervisor logs.

Ugh thanks for this. Stumbling through Firefox not working and having to install a chrome based browser then this has been rough. I was really excited about the backup updates but not being able to just download and restore a backup has been a huge miss.

Honestly clicking through the interface there are a ton of cool things automated into backups. I’m hopping the current momentum around backups translates to thing getting fixed.

How do you get to CREATE MY SMART HOME? Is it supposed to be in the backup section?

Same issue here, very heavy ha setup and can’t restore it even when loging in and creating simple user. (restoring from ha-os to virtual box on windows).

Always gives unknown error.

UPDATE:
Decripting backup and removing video files that i had, HELPED. IT WORKED.
