Finally got the Sonoff NSPanel Pro running natively on 12V/24V (No inverter needed!)

Hey everyone,

I’ve been struggling with a clean way to get a dedicated Home Assistant dashboard into my Camper setup. I really like the Sonoff NSPanel Pro—it’s basically the perfect HA companion since it runs the app natively, works as a Zigbee coordinator, and now even supports Matter. It’s way cleaner than velcroing a tablet to the wall.

The dealbreaker for me was the power. Most of these units are 220V AC only. In a mobile setup, keeping an inverter on 24/7 just to power a small wall panel is a huge waste of battery (idle draw is a killer).

I couldn’t find a commercial DC version for the Pro model, so I decided to build my own backplate.

The Goal: I wanted something that felt “factory.” It reuses the original Sonoff metal bracket so it snaps right into the wall just like the original.

Specs for the nerds:

  • Input: 12V, 24V, or 48V (tested it across the board).
  • Output: Clean 5V/1A (The Pro model is power-hungry compared to the standard version, so I over-spec’d this).
  • Protection: Added ESD protection and reverse polarity protection (because I’ve definitely swapped red and black wires in the dark before…).

It’s been running my dashboard for a while now and it’s a game changer for monitoring my data and lights without the “inverter tax.”

If anyone else is building an off-grid setup and wants to ditch the AC backplate, I’ve made a few extra and put them up on Lectronz: https://lectronz.com/products/nspanel-pro-dc-power-backplate-12v-24v-48v

Curious to hear if anyone else is using these panels in their rigs or if you’ve found other ways to power them!

Here are some pictures of what I made:
