Finding A Programmer

I’m not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask this question. I manage a small hotel and we just took possession back from the company that was running it. They had installed Yale locks with the green z-wave modules. This were controlled through the z-wave API and a custom program they had created. We don’t have access to any of their software so I need to factory reset or use a z-wave hub to use these locks. We’ve got that part and know what to do there. What I need help with is someone to create a program for use to use these locks and integrate them with our PMS system.

Home Assistant is hobbyist software suitable for a home environment.

It does not have the security required to manage a hotel’s locks.

Your PMS vendor may offer a security add-on. Alternatively contact Yale - they have robust software to run their reputable hardware.

HomeAssistant? (The first word is Home, not Hotel). Yeah, hobbyist is right. A hackers convention delight. Just don’t even consider it. Your insurance company would have a heart attack.

Most software will have author copyright notices attached. You should consider contacting them as well, as they already know your setup, and may be able to offer you a renewed contract as the software is still current and they will have the source code for any software maintenance needed. Saves reverse engineering and re-inventing the wheel.

Hey

Good luck with ZWave in business environment

I have some mixed feelings on this. For a larger professional hotel, I agree with the others that this is a no-go. But I’ve also been to “hotels” with 3 or 4 rooms, where the owner manages everything (repairing furniture, replacing lights, cleaning, cooking, etc.). In a case like that I could see that a small custom solution would work (although I’m not sure whether I would recommend it). But if you decide to go with a custom solution, better hire someone who knows what he’s doing (i.e., someone who is profound in programming and working with Z-Wave) than doing it yourself half-baked.

Nevertheless, you should definitely pay the person and make your thoughts on the legal and insurance topic.

(If I had a small hotel, I’d probably rather use Nuki, because they offer solutions for holiday apartments, but you already have the Yale locks, so this is probably not preferred )
