As the title suggests I’m starting with HA with the plan to slowly transfer my Hubitat devices as I learn.
My question is:
Upon installation of the Z-Wave stick HA immediately found 40 devices all called Node (Node 1, Node 2, etc). I’m assuming these are current Hubitat connected devices that HA had discovered. I expect they can’t be part of HA until I exclude them from Hubitat. My plan is to delete these nodes.
Am I on the right track? Can these sensors/devices be deleted en mass?

Were these devices all included to the USB stick you moved to HA (ie, from a Hubitat C-5 or earlier)?
If so, HA can read the network information from the stick and any security credientials for previously paired devices but it doesn’t quite know what types of devices they are and of course doesn’t know their names.
If you want to try and use the previously managed devices by that controller you can go to each “Node” device and do a “re-interview”. That will query the device and do the same process as if you had included it fresh into HA to begin with. Of course for any sleepy devices (battery powered) you’ll need to wake them up after hitting re-interview.
If this is a NEW (to you) Zwave stick then the 40 devices on it are not you Hubitat devices, either its devices paired to it by a previous owner (or it was returned) or its from the factory during testing. If this is the case you’ll want to do a full reset on it to remove those before starting.
I believe you are correct. I had forgotten I used this Z-Wave stick to remove an old device from hubitat. I’m thinking I should just figure out how to wipe the Z-Wave stick and start again.
So in that case you likely paired it as a secondary contorller (with PC Controller or the like) so that you could remove a “ghost” device from HE, especially on the C-7. So its not even a primary and while you could go thru the process with PC Controller to change it into a primary I don’t think I would.
If I were you and starting over, I’d factory reset it - PC Controller can do that if you still have it. I think HA can as well, I’m not sure.
Note that if its an older 500 series USB stick I’d strongly consider going to a 700 or 800 series stick before I did all the work to rebuild my Zwave network. 500 series is fine, but the improvements of a 700 or 800 series controller are worth it IMO.
