For those of us with Fitbit devices, we are being bombarded with notifications from Google about the imminent migration from the Fitbit app to a new Google Health app.
My question is whether this will trigger a need to migrate from a Fitbit integration to a new Google Health integration? I note there is info on a new Google Health API at Google Health API | Google for Developers. It mentions it is the “next generation of the Fitbit Web API”
Anyone know if this is on a roadmap for review as the migration is pretty imminent.
I am curious about this as well. I had migrated my Fitbit account to google a few years back. I have been wanting to bring my Aria 2 Fitbit scale into HA. The HA Fitbit integration requires you to setup a Fitbit dev account but Fitbit has blocked setting up new dev accounts for awhile now and link you to the google health dev portal. My curiosity is for those that don’t have an existing Fitbit dev account and can’t set one up as they’ve been deprecated. Hopefully, someone has advice on how to get Fitbit devices into HA going forward…or if these devices are no longer compatible with HA.
my fitbit scales stopped syncing a couple weeks back. And since Google shutdown the old Fitbit dev portal then we should remove Fitbit as a working integration.
looks like HA dev branch has a Google Health component that supports scales. I dropped it into the custom components folder in 2026.7.1 and it seems to work.
Latest HA has a new Google Health integration which appears to work fine once you get your head around how to set up the Google end.
I see there is an ongoing issue with briging sleep data across, but that looks like it may already be fixed in the underlying library used.
The question I have for anyone else who is using this - do you still get workouts logged on a bespoke HA calendar with this integration? I didn’t see any specific config for this while setting it up.
Edit: seems these workout logs were not the Fitbit integration, but Withings, which picked them up via its Fitbit integration.
The sleep sensors show as unknown on my google health integration. I can get them from the phone sensors but not sure why not from Google health. I’m on 2026.8.3
If you don’t want to set up a Google Cloud project, there is another route that doesn’t need the cloud API at all. The Google Health app (old Fitbit) writes your data into Health Connect on your phone, including sleep stages, HRV, resting heart rate etc. Your phone can send the data from there to HA by itself without cloud services or any API account or what ever.
The sleep sensors you do get from the phone are the companion app reading Health Connect, so that part already works, just with the latest value only. I built an open source app that does the same, however it keeps the history. It sends everything to its own HA integration which writes each day into the long term stats and backfills up to a years worth of data.
@SnoochieBoochie, the Aria’s weight and body fat come along the same way, no dev account needed.
One thing here which it doesn’t do, workouts don’t become calendat events. So @RealGandy, that part isn’t covered. I wrote down the whole Fitbit setup, including what does and what does not come through here
