Flawless Aqara A100 Smart Lock Integration via HomeKit

Hi everyone,

After a long journey of searching for a smart lock that integrates smoothly with Home Assistant, I finally settled on the Aqara A100 Zigbee international version. I installed two of them at my villa and wanted to share my experience.

I was searching the community for a complete topic on this specific setup and couldn't quite find what I needed, so I hope this write-up helps anyone else looking to do the same!

The Integration:

I integrated both locks using the official HomeKit Device integration. The process was incredibly simple and straightforward, and the results have exceeded my expectations. The lock and unlock operations are lightning-fast with almost zero delay.

Important Note on the Hub (Read Before Setup)

To get this working, you do need an Aqara M2 Hub, but there is a catch:

  • Firmware Requirement: Your M2 hub must be updated to version 4.5.30 or above to successfully integrate it with Home Assistant via HomeKit.
  • Temporary Requirement: The hub is only required during the installation and pairing phase. Once the locks are successfully paired and communicating with Home Assistant, you can switch the M2 hub off completely.

Exposed Entities & Controls

Through the HomeKit integration, the lock exposes exactly what you need. Here is a look at the device info and the controls exposed to HA (Lock mechanism, Battery service, and Identify):

Dashboard Results

Now, I am able to seamlessly lock and unlock both doors directly from my Home Assistant dashboard. Here’s a peek at how it looks integrated into my security setup:

btw, both apps were purchased from amazon.sa

So the A100 interfaces with the official HomeKit Device integration only via Bluetooth, not Zigbee?

Are the deadbolts also locked an unlocked remotely and from the door exterior? Or just the small door latch?

Not exactly Fergazoid.

A100 is communicating with HomeKit Device via Zigbee.
To clarify the confusion, here is the breakdown of these multiple connections in the solution:

  1. Bluetooth: used to communicate with A100 directly (setting passwords, finger prints and so).
  2. Wifi: used to communicate between aqara mobile app and M1 Hub.
  3. Zigbee: used for direct communication between A100 (the lock) and Homeassistant.

We can simply disconnect Aqara Hub (power it off) and test the connection with A100 lock. And that’s what I have done.
