Football Hub 0.8.3 – A complete football dashboard inside Home Assistant
Hi everyone,
I’ve been working on Football Hub for quite a while now and have just released v0.8.3, so I thought it was time to properly share what the project has become.
The original idea was fairly simple: I wanted football information inside Home Assistant without having to jump between different apps and websites.
It has grown quite a bit since then. ![]()
Football Hub now has its own full interface inside Home Assistant covering live football, fixtures, results, league tables, clubs, players, transfers, news, TV listings and competitions, as well as tools for running your own Last Man Standing and Acca League competitions.
Version 0.8.3 has been heavily focused on rebuilding the Live Centre.
New Live Centre
The Live page now works much more like a dedicated football scores app.
Live matches from around the world are grouped by country and competition, with a compact layout showing:
Live scores
Live match minute
Competition
Country and flag
Team badges
Match alerts
Full match details
Instead of having massive match cards taking up the screen, 0.8.3 introduces a much more compact FotMob-style layout.
Clicking a match opens the full match view with whatever information is available for that fixture, including things such as:
Timeline · Goals · Cards · Substitutions · Statistics · Line-ups · Venue · Referee · Match information
The amount of information obviously depends on what the football data provider has available for that particular match.
Worldwide football
One of the things I wanted from the beginning was for this not to be limited to just the Premier League.
The Live Centre can handle matches from countries and competitions around the world.
There are filters for:
Country → Competition → Men’s/Women’s football → Match status
You can disable countries or leagues you’re not interested in and favourite competitions you want prioritised.
I’ve also spent quite a bit of time during the 0.8.3 betas fixing country flags, competition filtering and women’s football detection.
For example, competitions such as Liga MX Femenil are now correctly recognised as women’s football and can be excluded independently.
My Club
You can select your favourite clubs and give them their own area within Football Hub.
Depending on available data you can see things such as:
- League position
- Next fixtures
- Previous results
- Live match
- Squad
- Player information
- Injuries/suspensions
- Transfers
- Club records
- Trophies
Favourite clubs also create useful Home Assistant sensors, so the football information isn’t limited to the Football Hub interface.
That means the data can potentially be used elsewhere in your HA dashboards and automations.
Experimental Stremio / Sports Streams integration
There’s also a new optional beta feature in 0.8.3.
Football Hub can compare a live fixture against events exposed by the user’s configured Sports Streams add-on.
When Football Hub finds one exact team-v-team match, a green:
Watch
button appears beside the fixture.
The idea is:
Football Hub → Watch → Stremio → available Sports Streams source → playback
Football Hub itself doesn’t host, proxy, download or store streams, and it doesn’t retrieve the underlying video URLs. It only matches the football event metadata and hands the corresponding event over to Stremio.
I’ve added a full setup guide to the README explaining how to configure it.
This part is still marked Beta, so I’d particularly like feedback from anyone testing it with different leagues and live matches.
Please only use streaming services/add-ons for content you are entitled to access.
Last Man Standing
Football Hub also includes a Last Man Standing competition manager.
This has become almost a separate project within Football Hub.
You can create a competition, add players and give each person their own private selection link.
It handles things including:
- Player picks
- Fixture selection
- Pick deadlines
- Previously used teams
- Live scores
- Automatic result checking
- Through / eliminated status
- Buy-backs
- Payments
- Prize fund
- Previous winners
- Competition restart
Players don’t need access to your Home Assistant dashboard to make their selections.
Acca League
There’s also an Acca League system for running a prediction competition.
It includes round management, selections, scoring, standings, payments and history.
This was another thing I previously managed manually, so bringing it into the same system has made life considerably easier.
And quite a bit more…
Football Hub now includes dedicated sections for:
Overview
Live
My Club
Fixtures
Results
Tables
Players
Cups
Last Man Standing
Acca League
News
TV Guide
Transfers
Supporters
Settings
The aim is basically to have a football hub inside Home Assistant, rather than just a couple of fixture sensors.
What’s changed in 0.8.3?
This release went through quite a few beta builds before I was happy enough to make it stable.
Some of the main changes are:
- Completely redesigned compact Live Centre
- Worldwide live-score grouping
- Live match minutes
- Improved Match Details
- Men’s/Women’s filtering fixes
- Better country and competition filters
- Improved country flags
- Favourite competition improvements
- Local Home Assistant date/time handling
- Midnight fixture rollover fixes
- Live data reliability improvements
- Optional Stremio/Sports Streams Watch integration
- Full Sports Streams setup documentation
- Numerous UI and reliability fixes
There were a lot of smaller fixes during testing as well.
Installation
Football Hub is a custom Home Assistant integration and can be installed through HACS as a custom repository. HACS is specifically designed to distribute community-created integrations and UI projects, although custom integrations aren’t reviewed or supported by Home Assistant itself.
Add the Football Hub GitHub repository as a custom Integration repository in HACS:
Then:
HACS → Custom repositories → add Football Hub → Integration → Install
Restart Home Assistant and add Football Hub from:
Settings → Devices & Services → Add Integration
If you’re upgrading from an earlier release, I’d recommend restarting Home Assistant and doing a Ctrl + F5 hard refresh afterwards.
As with any community custom integration, taking a Home Assistant backup before installing/updating is sensible; Home Assistant specifically notes that HACS projects run custom code within HA and don’t receive the same review as Core integrations.
I need testers!
This is probably the biggest reason I’m posting it here.
My own setup can only test a tiny percentage of the leagues, clubs, countries and situations Football Hub now supports.
I’d really appreciate people trying it and reporting anything that doesn’t look right.
I’m particularly interested in testing:
- Different countries/leagues
- Women’s competitions
- Live matches
- Match timers
- Match events/statistics
- Country/competition filters
- Favourite clubs
- Cup competitions
- Different Home Assistant time zones
- Mobile/tablet layouts
- Sports Streams matching
- Anything that behaves differently on another HA installation
If you find a problem, screenshots plus the competition/match involved are incredibly useful.
Feature ideas are welcome too
I’m still actively developing Football Hub, so I’m also interested in what other Home Assistant football users would actually find useful.
If there’s something you think would make sense in Football Hub, post it in the discussion.
Some of the best additions so far have come from using the integration for real competitions and finding things that could be automated or displayed better.
A quick note
Football Hub is an independent community project.
It isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by Home Assistant, HACS, FIFA, UEFA, any football association, league, club, broadcaster or football data provider.
Availability of particular competitions, statistics, line-ups and other information depends on the underlying data available for that fixture.
Football Hub 0.8.3 is available now
This has turned into a much bigger project than I originally expected, but I’m really pleased with where 0.8.3 has got to.
If you’re into football + Home Assistant, give it a try.
Stars on GitHub are appreciated.
Bug reports are welcome.
Feature requests are welcome.
And I’d particularly appreciate people helping test different leagues and countries.
