Force LG webOS TV to start on the Home screen

Hi folks,

Does anyone have any knowledge on how to make LG webOS TVs start on the Home screen?

I’m trying to imrpove automation of my LG TV. I can wake the TV via LAN with the WakeOnLAN integration and I can send commands etc. so the integration is working fine.

But I can’t do much useful with it other than turn it on/off.
For eample, I’d like to turn the TV on and have it go directly to the Home screen. The settings on the TV itself are set to default to the Home screen, and turning on via the remote the TV correclty starts on the Home screen… but when powering on via HA (regardless of the setting when last powered off), the TV starts on live TV… with the volume way up… :rage:.

I can send a buttion press to the TV to go to the Home screen, but that has to wait until the TV reaches a point where it starts accepting commands (i.e. status changes from off to playing), but in that time the live TV is roaring at the room.

I’d also like to figure out a few other things to try to make this more useful, but need to start with this.

/Thanks

Hi, isn’t there the System → Additional Settings → Home Settings → Power On screen where you can set it to “Home” or “recent Input”?

the other options is to enable the Quick Start+ or to set it to a previous input that has no signal so you can then control the volume go to the home when the TV has started up?

Or not sure but could you set the volume when it turns off? (you maybe able to control it when it’s just been turned off via trigger?)

Hi
As mentioned iny initial post, I already have tried all that you suggested and none of it makes any difference.

Apologies, I was controlling it via the remote and get the same experience if i use Wake on LAN component and having to wait until it starts up before you can control it.

I generally have it set to input channel that isn’t typically on at start up and use the built in apps so not affected by the volume. I’m not sure if there is a way other than possibly controlling it via the HDMI CEC control? HDMI-CEC - Home Assistant but that requires HA to be connected somehow to the TV :frowning:

Or if you have a soundbar that you maybe able to control that volume and/or input.

But I’m out of ideas other than those

I had trouble with LG WebOS TV with a Neat Bar Pro (audio conferencing device). It was connected via HDMI-CEC. The Neat Bar has a feature where it can turn the connected TV on based on movement. This would work fine, but the users of the office reported that it would randomly turn on and when it did it would go to TV at loud volume. So looks like it may be a pretty generic issue with LG WebOS TVs. For this use case I turn off the smart turn in feature and left users with the remote.

The only other that comes to mind, but don’t do it anymore is a infrared sender such as Logitech Harmony Hub - Home Assistant and then it would be sending the commands just like the remote control…
